The repair guy said when a surge happens the constant off and on of the inverter wears out this relay over time and think he said older units don't have the relay on this main circuit board and cheaper to repair.
I now keep my inverter off while gone from Florida these summer months. Mine had 2 internal fuses but they were OK Nick. Thanks for the info. With further investigation I have found it is still working but I think it is definately wearing out. It is pretty old so when the time comes I think I will go for a new unit rather than sinking money into this one.
